Oh baby its been a long lonely time
I can't believe that a blog entry takes so much thinking about. When it comes to it my head is so stuffed full that I can't take the lid off for fear of an explosion. The books are there, piled up in my studio, waiting, I keep dipping in to them and getting absorbed in to the pages but these books, unselected by me just are not turning me on. There are a few but what do I do with the rest? Will explore the nature of book as object.
Have been looking at alphabets, bifur and the bauhaus in particular. I just love this integrated graphic.

books,books,books
Time to sit, time to read and absorb. So many books that they are now filling my studio so it is time to do some sorting out and planning.

Sunday. A Day of Rest.
Well, problems with accessing my blog from my home PC means that I am now in the library. A fit and appropriate place for absorbing more book related stuff. I am going to ask for an appointment with the librarian to discuss Dewey numbers for categorisation and to see what involvement I can get from contact with the library.
Many conversations with book lovers and ideas for the project which are gaining momentum.
My studio neighbour Mike Bartlett mentioned a book he had when he was a child. Inspired I managed to obtain it from Amazon- Looking and Finding by Geoffrey Grigson, circa1950's. It is a small red book with a nice feel, yellowing pages and tidy text with line drawing illustrations. All about collecting things and right up my street. I will let you know what little gems I find within. I have found something about maps and am now on the hunt for large scale ones- to do my own mapping. Pics to follow. signing off now as my 30min slot is coming to an end.
More later.

The beginning of the book project
Having been offered loads of books that were destined to be pulped I am now in the enviable position of having some raw material with which to feed my book project.
My first task is to take them to my studio which is an endurance issue. Three journeys and 13 boxes so far.
Next comes counting - the number and then ISBN and Dewey No. for classification.
Already I have more ideas than sense and have met and had conversations with some great people about books and words etc.
One of the biggest challenges so far has been setting up and accessing the blog.
It's an age thing.
Check out the blog for developments and don't forget to post your comments and add suggestions.
Read on.
